Lanier copier service and replacement in metro Atlanta

Ricoh retired the brand in 2023. The hardware is Ricoh hardware, and we still service it.

We will tell you when replacing is right, and when it is not.

We service Lanier copiers across metro Atlanta

We service Lanier copiers and multifunction machines across metro Atlanta, and we replace them when the numbers say it is time. If someone told you your Lanier is unsupported, call us for a second opinion. The parts exist, the hardware is Ricoh hardware, and we have been working on it since 1996. We will also tell you, honestly, when replacing is the right call.

Lanier was an Atlanta company. Founded in 1934, headquartered in Atlanta for most of its life, acquired by Ricoh in January 2001. Metro Atlanta has an unusually dense installed base of Lanier machines, and their owners are being told the equipment is unsupported. That is usually false, and it is also a replacement-sales list. This page does both.

What happened to Lanier

Ricoh's own corporate history records acquiring "Lanier Worldwide, Inc. (headquarters: Atlanta), an OA equipment marketing company in the US" in January 2001. That is a direct quote. Lanier was an Atlanta company, founded in 1934, and Ricoh bought it and kept the brand alive for another 22 years.

Ricoh retired the Lanier brand on April 1, 2023, consolidating it under the Ricoh name. If you have a Lanier machine, it is a Ricoh machine. Lanier machines from the Ricoh era share engines and part numbers with equivalent Ricoh models, and the service codes are identical.

We have been working on this hardware since 1996, which predates Ricoh's acquisition of Lanier. We know these machines, we stock the parts, and we know which ones are still worth fixing and which ones are not.

Lanier models serviced

The table below lists Lanier models from our service records. Every cell is filled from actual machines we have worked on. We do not invent model numbers.

What breaks on Lanier machines

Fuser assemblies

Toner wipes off with a thumb, or a burning smell on warm-up. The most common serious repair past 300,000 pages.

Feed and separation rollers

Repeat jams from one tray. A roller replacement, not a machine replacement.

Developer units

Faded output or background shading. The developer has reached end of life and needs replacement.

SC error codes

Lanier machines report faults as SC codes, same as Ricoh. Read the code to us and we will tell you whether it is a reset or a parts call.

Repair or replace: the 600,000 page rule

Repair when the machine is under about 600,000 lifetime pages and the repair costs less than roughly a third of replacement cost. Fusers are the most common serious repair past 300,000 pages, and a fuser replacement is usually worth doing on a machine under 600,000 pages.

Replace when you are calling for service more than four or five times a year. At that point, the repair frequency is telling you the machine is reaching the end of its service life, and the next repair is just the one before the one after that.

The security argument

A machine running SMBv1 for scan-to-folder is a problem regardless of how well it prints. Pre-2015 machines on old firmware often cannot be brought onto a current network safely. This is the most common reason to retire a machine that still prints fine. The machines most often worth replacing are pre-2015 units on old firmware, not because they stopped printing but because they cannot be secured.

Parts are increasingly hard to source on units built before roughly 2010. If your Lanier was built before 2010, call us and we will tell you whether parts are still available for your specific model.

What replaces a Lanier

The current Ricoh IM series. Lanier machines from the Ricoh era share engine lineage with Ricoh IM models, so the operator interface carries over and staff retraining is close to nothing. Your team already knows the screen layout.

Trade value on the old machine. Ask. Most dealers will not offer trade value on a Lanier, but the machine has value, and we will put a number on it.

Hard drive data. Every MFP since the mid-2000s stores scanned and printed images on an internal drive. Get sanitization or destruction in writing. This is not optional for medical and legal offices. The FTC warns that data on copier hard drives "can be stolen from the hard drive, either by remote access or by extracting the data once the drive has been removed."

Do not panic-buy. Emergency purchases are how offices end up on 60-month leases for twice the machine they need. If your Lanier is down, we will get it running or provide a loaner, and you can make the replacement decision on your schedule, not on the worst day of the month.

Service by city

[PRO-TEC: Atlanta, Duluth, Norcross, North Fulton response times and local specifics]. Duluth and Norcross have a dense installed base of Lanier machines, and we dispatch to both regularly. If your Lanier is showing an SC code, read it to us over the phone and we will tell you whether it is a reset or a parts call before we send a technician.

Parts and honest limits

[PRO-TEC: service call rate, diagnostic fee, typical fuser replacement cost]. We carry the parts that actually fail on Lanier machines: fuser assemblies, feed rollers, drum units, developer units, and waste toner containers. If a part is not on the van, we can usually source it within 24 to 48 hours.

Parts are increasingly hard to source on units built before roughly 2010. We will tell you, before we take your money, whether parts are still available for your specific model. If they are not, we will tell you to replace, and we will tell you what replaces it.
